How to Reach Shiv Khori

First reach Ransoo village in Reasi (Jammu & Kashmir). Ransoo is the base camp. From here you walk ~3–4 km on a marked hill path to the holy cave of Shivkhori. Taxis/buses go up to Ransoo,last part is on foot (or pony / palki / pithoo). Phones/cameras are kept in cloak room before cave.

  • Where exactly? Shivkhori cave is near Ransoo in Reasi district. The cave is ~4.0 km from Ransoo.
  • Official road distances (Shrine Board):
    Jammu → Ransoo via Katra is around 129 km. Ransoo via Akhnoor–Bhambla route is 112 km.

By Flight to Shivkhori

  • Nearest airport: Jammu (IXJ). From the airport, hire a taxi to Ransoo. Choose route via Akhnoor–Bhambla (direct), or via Katra if you also plan Vaishno Devi.
  • How long from airport? Typical driving time is ~3–3.5 hours depending on route and traffic. (Distances above + hill driving norms.)
Approx flight fares (for planning):
  • From Delhi → Jammu (IXJ) one-way is usually ₹4,500–₹12,000 depending on season and class. Trains and buses can be a second option too if time is not a problem. Tip: Tell the cab clearly: “Ransoo – Shiv Khori (Reasi side)”. If you will return to Jammu/Katra the same day, ask for round-trip price.

By Train to Jammu Tawi or Katra

  • Main stations: Jammu Tawi (JAT) and Katra (SVDK). From Jammu Tawi → Ransoo is commonly planned via Katra route (~129 km) or Akhnoor–Bhambla (~112 km). From Katra → Ransoo is ~74–80 km by road (2–3 hours).
  • Why many stay at Katra? Families often combine Vaishno Devi + Shivkhori and do Shivkhori as a day trip from Katra.
  • New Delhi to Jammu Tawi: The min fares are around Rs 380–2,245 and price depends on class and dates of travel. Rajdhani Express has costing around Rs.1,690 for 3rd AC, Rs.2,285 for 2nd AC and Rs.2,785 for 1st AC, for one side travel. Also keep checking the new prices by IRCTC.
Jammu/Katra → Ransoo (by road after train):
  • JKRTC / buses run widely in the region; taxis are the simplest point-to-point option for families/elders. (State operator contact & “Passenger Services” page below.)

Bus / Taxi / Own Car: By Road to Ransoo (base camp)

Two common road options from Jammu:

  1. Via Katra — ~129–130 km (good if also visiting Vaishno Devi).
  2. Via Akhnoor–Bhambla — ~110–112 km (more direct if not stopping at Katra).
  • Vehicles reach till base: Govt tourism notes buses & light vehicles go up to Ransoo (base). Then the yatra walk starts.
  • Useful landmark for drivers: Turn for Ransoo near Kanda Morh on Reasi–Rajouri road (Ransoo ~6 km inside). (Local travel write-ups.)
Indicative road fares (to help you plan money):
  • Jammu → Katra (JKRTC) public bus seats are often seen around ₹86–₹400 depending on coach/type. (JKRTC gives helpline for exact day-wise fare/timing.)
  • Katra → Shivkhori (Ransoo) taxi: many operators quote ~₹3,000–₹3,800 same-day return (small car), depending on season/vehicle.

Two easy, family-friendly plans

  • Plan A — From Katra (most common): Katra hotel → drive 2–3 hrs (~74–80 km) to Ransoo → walk 3–4 km (or pony/palki) → darshan → return Katra by evening.
  • Plan B — From Jammu (airport or station): Pick-up → drive for a direct visit to Ransoo.

What’s new / changing (so you don’t get surprises)

  • Helicopter (Katra to Shivkhori): In May 2025, local authorities and media announced begining of Katra–Shivkhori helicopter service after 15 years. But confirm start date, booking site, price is not announced.
  • Ropeway (Darshan Deodi ↔ Shivkhori) — status: A 2.12 km ropeway has been planned, but bids were annulled in Mar 2025 due to a legal dispute. No ropeway is running yet; watch for re-tenders.

Final Word

If your family is coming to visit shiv khori then you can take a flight or train to reach jammu then drive to Ransoo → walk 3–4 km (or pony/palki) → calm darshan → return to Katra/Jammu.
