Rameswaram Temple is a very old and holy temple on Rameswaram island in Tamil Nadu. People come from all over India to pray here. The main god is Lord Shiva, who is shown as a lingam called Ramanatha Swamy. Many people call this place Rameswar Mandir or Ramanatha Swamy Temple Rameswaram. It is a top place for many pilgrims and is a part of 12 Jyotirlinga.
History + Architecture of the Temple
Long ago, people say Lord Rama prayed to Shiva here after his trip to Lanka. Over many years kings and builders made the temple bigger. The temple is built in the old South Indian style you see in Tamilnadu Rameshwaram Temple photos. It has tall towers called gopurams and many carved stone pillars.
A special thing: the temple has very long corridors. These corridors have many carved pillars and are one of the longest temple corridors in India. The stone work and the halls are made so people can walk and pray in peace.
