Jagannath Temple To Shut Down For 5 Hours Today—Big Ritual Inside

Jagannath

Puri – The Jagannath Temple in Puri will stay closed for five hours tomorrow. The Jagannath Temple closed is for the Banakalagi ritual of Lord Jagannath and his siblings.

As per the temple office, devotees will not be allowed darshan between 5 pm and 10 pm on Thursday. Banakalagi, also called Shrimukha Sringara, is done to renew the look of the deities. Servitors use natural colours made from Hingula, Haritala, Kasturi, Keshar, and Kaintha gum. The Dutta Mohapatra and Khadiprasad Daitapati servitors carry out the work inside the sanctum. The Jagannath temple doors will open again after the ritual is over. Officials said this is a regular part of tradition and is mostly held on a Wednesday or Thursday.
