Amritsar: In a big move, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against three accused in the March 15 grenade attack on a temple in Amritsar. The attack, which shook the city, is now linked to foreign-based handlers and Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) operatives.
According to the charge sheet, Bhagwant Singh alias Manna Bhatti gave shelter to the attackers. He also provided them with grenades, motorcycles for checking the area, and other help before and after the blast. Officials said he played a key role in keeping weapons safe and moving the men around.
The second accused, Diwan Singh alias Sunny, has been booked for hiding the attackers and destroying evidence. A third person, whose name was not revealed in the initial release, also faces charges for working with them and helping carry out the strike.
The NIA said the entire act was carried out on orders from handlers sitting abroad. These men guided the accused, gave money, and planned the attack with the help of KLF contacts.
The grenade attack on March 15 left the city in shock, as the Amritsar temple was crowded when the attack took place as while no major loss of life was reported, the attack was meant to spread fear and disturb peace in Punjab.
The charge sheet has now been filed in a special NIA court. The agency says this is a clear case of cross-border conspiracy where local helpers carried out orders from foreign handlers.
