The monsoon has slowed the pace of the Kedarnath Yatra, but this hasn’t stopped devotees from making the journey. Here’s where things stand as of late July 2026.

Total footfall this season: Kedarnath Dham has crossed 14,13,648 pilgrims since the yatra began — a strong showing even with weeks of disrupted weather.
Daily footfall has fallen sharply: In the early weeks of the season, more than 25,000 pilgrims a day were reaching Kedarnath. That number has now dropped below 1,000 a day, with a recent Thursday count of just 949.
Badrinath is holding steadier: Even amid heavy rain, Badrinath Dham continues to see over 6,000 pilgrims daily.
Why the slowdown : The drop tracks directly with the onset of heavy monsoon rainfall across Uttarakhand. Continuous rain has triggered landslides and road blockages at multiple points along the pilgrimage routes, particularly around Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts. The Char Dham Yatra itself was briefly suspended in late July as a precaution, then resumed once route reviews were completed — a pattern that’s typical for this stretch of the season and is likely to repeat through August.
District officials have also flagged health-related risks at altitude during this period, and have asked pilgrims to avoid crossing rivers, streams, or waterfalls while heavy rain continues.
What this means if you’re planning your trip
Monsoon travel to Kedarnath isn’t off the table — thousands are still making the journey, many of them during the sacred Shravan month — but it does call for more flexibility:
Build a buffer day into your itinerary in Dehradun or Guptkashi in case routes or helicopter flights are delayed.
Helicopter services remain weather-dependent through the monsoon window and can be grounded with little notice; road and pony/palanquin options stay available as backup.
Check official advisories before departure — administration guidance can change quickly if a fresh spell of heavy rain hits.
Off-peak crowds are a genuine upside — with daily numbers this low, darshan queues and accommodation availability are far easier to manage than during the May–June peak.
