Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir
The Vaishno Devi Yatra has been stopped once again after a fresh landslide hit the pilgrimage track in Reasi on Wednesday. Heavy mud and rocks rolled down the slope, blocking the narrow shrine route. Rescue teams and police reached quickly. Pilgrims walking on the path were taken to safe places. Officials confirmed that no new injury was reported in this slide.
Railway officials have also suspended several trains going towards Jammu and Katra. Thousands of travellers have been left waiting as movement in the region is badly affected.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the fresh incident deeply saddening. He said that saving lives is more important than speed of reopening. This Vaishno Devi Yatra landslide comes just days after an earlier one in the same area claimed many lives. Locals say the route turns unsafe whenever heavy rains lash the hills.
Machines and workers are clearing the debris round the clock. Officials said this shrine yatra will restart only after experts give a clear safety report. Pilgrims planning the journey have been advised to hold back and follow official updates. Authorities have stressed that safety remains the top priority.
