The Kedarnath Temple committee has locked the final Kedarnath Temple closing date, and devotees now have only a short window left. The sacred portals of Kedarnath will shut for the winter on October 23. After that, the temple will remain closed until next season.
Priests and temple officials made the announcement on Vijayadashami during a traditional ceremony. They set the date based on panchang calculations, as they do every year.
With the Kedarnath Temple closing date out, there’s a sudden rush from pilgrims trying to reach before the doors shut. Local travel operators say calls and bookings have already gone up, and many people are now hurrying to secure travel and stay.
Once the portals close, the idol of Baba Kedarnath will be taken to its winter seat at Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath. All main rituals will continue there till reopening in summer.
Kedarnath, one of the Char Dham sites, sits high in the Himalayas near the Mandakini river and stays open only for a few months every year.
Anyone wishing to visit this season must act fast. October 23 is the final day for darshan. After that, doors will stay locked through the winter.
