Katra, Jammu & Kashmir: The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has postponed the start of the Vaishno Devi yatra until further orders. Heavy rain at Bhawan and on the track has made the route unsafe for pilgrims. Vaishno Devi Yatra closed signs have been put up across key entry points.
Authorities had already stopped the pilgrimage for more than a fortnight. They called off the plan to restart it on September 14 after the latest downpour and fresh landslides. Officials say safety comes first.
Teams are working to clear debris and check the route. Roads and the main track have been hit in many places. Authorities will allow pilgrims only after the track is fully safe.
The Shrine Board asked devotees to avoid travel to Katra for now. It told people to watch its official channels for updates and not to trust rumours. Devotees already near the area are being helped with food, shelter and medical aid.
What you must do now (quick):
- Do not travel to Katra right now.
- Check the Shrine Board’s official updates before you plan.
- If you are already there, follow local staff and help lines.
Why this matters: Heavy rain can trigger more landslides and wash away paths. That puts pilgrims at real risk. Officials say they will reopen the yatra only when all checks are done and the route is safe. Until then, Vaishno Devi Yatra closed remains in effect for everyone’s safety.
