Panaji, Goa – Big news for devotees and history lovers! The Goa government will build a new temple on the site of the old Saptakoteshwar temple, which was destroyed by the Portuguese long ago. Alongside it, a special Koti-Ttirth corridor will be created to honor Goa’s lost temples.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the project will be built on Divar Island, by the Mandovi river. “This corridor will be a place for worship and a memory of temples that were lost in history,” he said.
The original Saptakoteshwar temple was later re-established in Narve (Bicholim) during Shivaji’s era, but the old site stayed empty for centuries. Now, the government is turning it into a memorial for faith and heritage.
The new temple will spread over 10,000 square meters. The Koti-Ttirth corridor will let devotees pray, explore, and connect with Goa’s spiritual past. Officials say it will attract pilgrims and tourists alike.
