Puja Rush Begins! Dussehra 2025 Date & Rituals Out!

New Delhi — The countdown to Dussehra 2025 has officially begun, and people across India are scrambling to fix their puja timings, travel plans and Ravan Dahan slots after the dates and muhurat were confirmed.

The Hindu calendar marks October 2, 2025, as the day to celebrate Dussehra. It honors Lord Rama defeating Ravana and Goddess Durga killing Mahishasura, marking the end of Navratri. For millions, it’s the day when good finally crushes evil.

Dashmi Tithi will start at 7:01 PM on October 1 and end at 7:10 PM on October 2
The most in-demand period — the Vijay Muhurat — will fall between 2:27 PM and 3:15 PM on October 2. Priests say this window is ideal for puja, visarjan and new beginnings.

Major Rituals People Are Already Prepping For

Ravan Dahan:
Huge effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran stuffed with crackers will go up in flames in cities and small towns. Organisers have already started booking grounds.

Ram Leela Shows:
Performers will wrap up ten-day stage shows telling Lord Rama’s story on Vijayadashami night, just before burning the effigies.

Ayudha Puja:
In southern states, people will wash and worship their vehicles, machines and tools. Auto owners, drivers, shopkeepers and workers take part in large numbers.

Durga Visarjan:
People in West Bengal and nearby regions carry Durga idols to rivers and ponds for immersion, marking the end of Navratri celebrations.

Why The Festival Still Pulls Massive Crowds

The day is linked to powerful beliefs. Many see it as the best time to:

  • Start a new job or business
  • Buy a vehicle or property
  • Travel for the first time after Navratri
  • Visit temples with family
  • Host community events

With the vijay muhurat now public, temples, organisers and families have already started fixing their schedules. From small towns to metro cities, demand for pandals, stages, crackers and performers is shooting up. As one priest said, “It’s the day when people believe no bad force can stand in their way.”
